「資源描述與檢索」（Resource
Description and Access, RDA）是為數位環境所設計的內容描述標準，但也適用於書本式、卡片式、現有自動化系、或未來系統中，進行書料或權威資料描述。它是以兩個概念模式FRBR「書目紀錄功能需求」（Functional Requirements for Bibliographic
Records）、FRAD「權威資料功能需求」（Funtional Requirements for Authority Data）及國際圖書協會聯盟（IFLA）的國際編目原則（Statements of
International Cataloguing Principles, ICP; 2009）為基礎。
FRBR滿足使用者執行四項工作：尋找（Find）、識別（Identify）、選擇（Select）、獲取（Obtain）。它採用關聯式資料庫之概念，以實體關系模式（Entity-Relationship Model or ER Model），定義實體（Entities），列出其屬性（Attributes），識別實體間的關係（Relationships），對映到使用者工作（user tasks），能夠有效連結同一作品的不同版本及格式。
FRBR包括3組實體：
Group 1（第1組）：包括Works（作品）、Expressions（內容表現形）、Manifestations（載體版本）、Item（單件）。
Group 2（第2組）：包括Persons（個人）、Corporate Bodies（團體）、Families（家族）。
Group 3（第3組）：包括Concepts（概念）、Objects（物件）、Events（事件）、Places（地點）。
Group 1實體的屬性如下：
作品：ID、題名、日期年代等
內容版本：ID、題名、形式、日期年代、語文等
載體版本：ID、題名、出版日期或年代、形式/數量、可得情況、取用方式等
單件：ID、擁有者、館藏地等
Group 2實體的屬性如下：
個人：日期（birth, death, activity）、頭銜、性別、地點、語言、活動範圍或領域、其他
家族：家族類型、相關日期、地點、活動範圍或領域、家族史
團體：地點、日期、語言、地址、活動範圍或領堿、歷史、其他
RDA建於FRBR和FRAD架構上，”關係”極為重要，包括：
第1組實體間關係（work-expression-manifestation-item）
第2組與第1組實體間關係（e.g.: preson and
work）
第2組實體間關係（權威紀錄）
第3組與第1及2組間的主題關係（copcept, object, event,
place）
